Parent Questions

What families ask about Ortho-K.

How does Ortho-K work?

Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight and gently reshape the cornea's surface. When removed in the morning, the cornea holds the corrected shape throughout the day — typically 16–24 hours. The effect is temporary and reversible. Nightly wear is required to maintain the correction.

Who is a good candidate for Ortho-K?

Ortho-K works best for children and adults with mild to moderate myopia (up to –6.00 diopters) and low astigmatism. It is most commonly used in children ages 8–16 as a myopia control treatment. Adults who need freedom from glasses or daytime contacts also use it.

What does Ortho-K cost at Puget Sound Eye Care?

Initial fitting is $2,000–$4,000, which includes the diagnostic workup, custom lens design, fitting visits, and first year of follow-up. Annual lens replacement and maintenance is $300–$600. HSA and FSA accepted.
